Chinese Orchestra: UTARSLCO Needs Financial Support
> Difficulty of society faced to cover its expenses and management.
KAJANG: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman Sungai Long Chinese Orchestra (UTARSLCO) collaborates with Department of Student Affairs (DSA) had held a music concert named <JUST> on 24th June 2018 (7pm) at multipurpose hall.

A fund is one of the biggest sources for operating an event or society activities. The Chinese orchestra has been faced some kinds of problem of “Money Not Enough” to cover expenses of music concert and society activities.
The budget of <JUST> music concert is about RM15 thousand. “The greatest expenses will be covered on sound and lighting system which took about 50% of the budget.” said by Leong Kah Mun, Treasurer of <JUST> music concert 2018.
With that, the organizing chairperson, Bryan Lim Ming Hang also claimed that they hired professional PA system team to provide high quality of sound effect so that it can brings the greatest intense and impression of the music enjoyment towards audience.
Thus, a good show needs a lot of financial support to enhance the quality of the performance.
Chinese Orchestra had been established since June 2015 and member had increase from less than 10 people to around 100 active members in 3 years.
However, they will only recruit beginner or inexperience new members in October semester. Bryan said it is difficult to open the slots for everyone as they have to consider lacking of instrument problem. It will only be efficient unless they afford to buy their own instrument.
Leong added that learning music instrument is time consuming. Thus, beginner would have more than half year to learn the music instrument and improve their skills. It will be fair when giving them enough time to achieve certain level.

Besides, Chinese orchestra needs funds to decrease burden on others expenses. Leong said, “Our society had bought some new instruments which costs total around RM 5,000 in year 2017.” However, she added that it could not solve the problem of lacking instrument of society.
“Members who owed instrument are about 30% to 40%. Many experience members do not have own instrument as their secondary school provide them instrument as well.” said by Leong.
Yap Shen Wei, member of Chinese Orchestra claimed that although she has her own instrument, she still realize that lacking of instruments cause members have to take turn using those instruments during weekly practice and ensemble.

The main income of Chinese Orchestra is organizing music concert event. They sold ticket and release concert t-shirt to earn profits. Sponsorship and publicity department work together to look for sponsor company and vendors for fundraising. Besides, sponsorship cards were distributed to member as to encourage them participant themselves in raising fund program.
Throughout the concert preparation period, Leong will update them the status of financial so that members were aware and taking action to solve it together. With that, Leong added that members are highly support and rise funds amount was about RM 6,000 to music concert.
Besides, Chinese orchestra would perform in mall and other events to promote this unit to public and collect the funds. Department of Student Affairs (DSA) helps to look for sponsorship from Outsider Company. Bryan added that they will try to seek for funds from non-profit organization in future.
Members are practicing during the weekly ensemble.
Bryan had also mentioned that instead of financial problem, storage is another challenge that society faced. The committee will further find out the way to solve it.
Lastly, Chinese Orchestra has presents the different and wonderful music concert to audience no matter how much challenges they faced. “The spirits showed on members, who always holding the passion towards music pushing me and the team to stay positive and determined to overcome the challenges until we can achieve succeed. ” said by Bryan.
